Traveling over the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes from Langdale to Eskdale, you will stop at the top of Wrynose for morning tea. After traversing the passes stop at the Roman Fort, 1,000 ft, up on the fells. You have the opportunity to walk through the fort and see the fantastic view to Upper Eskdale, Scafell and Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountains.
Next you will ride on the miniature Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, before a lunch stop at one of the valley inns.
In the afternoon you will continue to Wastwater, Britain’s favorite view, and take in the views up into Wasdale and across the lake to the famous 1,500 foot screes. From here head north over Cold Fell, passing, in the distance, Ennerdale Water and alongside Loweswater, through the Lorton Valley and over Whinlatter Pass to the visitor center for a refreshment stop and a chance to look for the red squirrels.
On our journey back to Windermere we see Bassenthwaite Lake and pass by Thirlmere, Grasmere and Rydal Water.
